Dear USFT Members,
I am writing to inform you about your opportunity to run in the 2005 Fair
Trade Federation Board elections!
The Fair Trade Federation is an association of businesses that are committed
to upholding the highest standards of Fair Trade. All FTF Members abide by
the principles of fair wages, cooperative workplaces, consumer education,
environmental sustainability, financial and technical support, respect for
cultural identity, and public accountability. As 100% Fair Trade businesses,
Members are pushing the limits of Fair Trade in North America.
This is an exciting time for Fair Trade and the Fair Trade Federation. FTF
Membership increased by a third over the previous year 2004, and we expect
it to double over 2005/06. FTF plans to unveil three new membership
categories that include coffee shops and coffee roasters. In the fall, FTF
and the Fair Trade Resources Network (FTRN) are convening a large 500-1000
person National Fair Trade Conference! This conference is geared to
organizations, businesses, activists and students passionate about Fair
Trade.
By joining the FTF Board now, you can add your vision to the Fair Trade
movement and provide a student voice for FTF. This is a great way to
connect to other leaders in the Fair Trade community and strengthen the
relationship between USFT and FTF.
Feel free to check out the FTF website at www.fairtradefederation.com for
more information about FTF and the elections. You can also call or e-mail
Maya at (202)872-5364 or maya at fairtradefederation.org for more information
about Board Members' role and responsibilities and candidate guidelines.
All USFT Members are encouraged to run in these elections.
