For our Fair Trade project we are focusing on educating others about
Fair Trade, but in a fun and exciting way. We want to be sure to keep
their attention and at the same time inform them of what Fair Trade is
and how they can help in the movement. We are going to have three
speakers. Last year our Mayor, Martin Chavez, came and spoke at one of
our events and we're hoping to get him to come once again. He supports
Fair Trade and wants to make Albuquerque a Fair Trade city. We are also
going to have the executive director from Peacecraft and a
representative from Just Cashews, a local Fair Trade cashew supplier.
We're going to have four local bands perform. We chose to have bands
that can appeal to nearly everyone's style of music from Jazz to Rock.
We feel that this will also help in keeping people's interest. We are
going to be working with other groups too. We have invited campus and
non-campus groups as well as faith-based groups to have informational
tables at our event. New Mexico Coffee Roasters, our supplier of coffee
and Fair Trade coffee on campus, is working with our group and is going
to hand out prizes. We will have free food like Fair Trade coffee, tea,
cashews, chocolate, and fruit, and free food always draws attention!I
believe our project will increase the sales of Fair Trade products on
campus because 1. We have reserved an atrium that is the center of
almost all student activity, so getting their attention shouldn't be an
issue and 2. Because of our speakers, bands, and free food students
will be interested in what's going on and will want to learn more
